Doing Business 2012 report: Rwanda 3rd easiest place to do business in Africa and 2nd five year top global reformer

The Government of Rwanda today welcomed the country’s improved ranking in the World Bank’s 2012 Doing Business Report from 58th last year to the 45th position this year in ease of doing business worldwide. The business reforms are part of the government’s extensive efforts to promote Rwanda as an attractive business and investment destination, in order to drive the growth of the private sector and generate wealth. This performance makes Rwanda the 2nd most reformed economy in the world over the last five years and the 3rd easiest in Africa, as well as the 1st in EAC.
Speaking on Rwanda’s rise in the ranking from 58th last year to 45th this year, the CEO of the Rwanda Development Board, John Gara said “we are encouraged by this ranking, it is a result of extensive efforts by government to streamline business procedures, create a conducive legal framework, reduce bureaucracy and improve service delivery in order to promote both domestic and foreign investment.”
Rwanda is the # 2 global reformer over a period of 5 years from 2006-2011, after Georgia. These two countries have been the most consistent in reforming over the years. Rwanda is the 3rd easiest place to do business in Africa (1st is Mauritius which ranks 23rd globally, and 2nd is South Africa which ranks 35th globally). Other African countries in the top 5 are: Tunisia (4th) which ranks 46th globally and Botswana (5th) which ranks 54th globally.
The country will continue to enhance progress beyond the World Bank Doing Business indicators to enhance the business environment.

Rwanda has improved in the following areas of Doing Business:
  • Starting a business: Rwanda is the 8th easiest in the world from 9th last year. This was eased by shortening required procedures and introducing free online registration.
  • Getting credit: Rwanda ranks 8th in the world (from 32nd last year) after putting in place a fully functional private credit reference bureau.
  • Paying taxes: Moved from 43rd last year to 19th easiest place to pay taxes in the world.
  • Enforcing contracts: Rwanda is the 39th easiest in the world; this 39th position remains unchanged from last year. go here http://www.rdb.rw

Registering a business:

it’s as easy as 1-2

Most of the time, the waiting area at the business registry at RDB is packed. That is not in the first place due to a boom in entrepreneurship (although that might also play a role), but rather to the fact that it has never been as easy to set up a business in Rwanda. If you have the required documents, you can have a recognized enterprise in 24 hours.
According to Yves Sangano, chief registration officer at the Office of the Registrar General (ORG), the simplification of procedures is both legal and institutional in nature. Legally, the new companies act has instituted significant changes in the requirements for companies. “In the past, business registration was done by the courts, but the new companies act assigned it to a specialized agency,” Sangano explains.
Initially, this was the Rwanda Companies Registration Agency, yet in accordance with the objective of creating a one-stop center for investment and doing business at RDB, the ORG was set up within the development board   \read more about registering a business on:.http://focus.rw

Akagera National Parc

Akagera National Parc is located in the east of Rwanda. Kibungu is the city that is nearest to the park and the best starting point.
The park covers over 2500 sq km of savannah west of the Kagera River, which denotes the frontier with Tanzania. The park has a variety of wildlife and is a habitat for over 500 different species of birds. There are accommodation facilities on the edge of the park at Gabiro, 100km (60 miles) to the north. It is best not to visit the park in the rainy season (December, March and April) since many of the routes become impassable.

Bordering Rwandas eastern neighbor Tanzania, Akagera National Park could scarcely be more different in mood to the breezy cultivated hills that characterize much of Rwanda. Dominated scenically by the labyrinth of swamps and lakes that .....
